Dad Paul Kellagher told me about a climb he and his 10 year-old daughter Anna did this summer.

He writes:

"Hi Rob, I climbed the Schwarzhorn, 2927m in the Bernese Oberland this summer with my daughter Anna, aged 10. The route takes around 5 1/2 hours and is the highest peak in the range that lies to the north of the main Bernese oberland range, (i.e. the range dividing Grindlewald from Interlaken. the route involves an easy but fairly exposed via ferata with a series of 5 long ladders and some cables along the ridge. Take the cable car from Grindlewald to First.

The route involves a pleasant approach up a valley crossing several streams and several Marmot families. You are rewarded by spectacular views to the Eiger and beyond. the descent is down an technically easy but fairly serious ridge. I kept Anna on a short rope throughout the upper section of the mountain.

There are also a range of other peaks, walks and valley climbing in the area making for an ideal family holiday base. We camped in the "Eiger Nordwand" campsite.

Hope the info is of use to other families."

What a brilliant adventure and many thanks Paul for sharing this with other families!
